It seems Days Gone has a huge number of fans that want a sequel, myself included. A petition on Change.org for Sony to approve a sequel for the 2019 open-world zombie apocalypse game has nearly reached a whopping 150,000 signatures.
With the game launching to mixed reviews from critics, and a host of technical problems, the game was seen by many as a title not worth playing. However, most of those that purchased and played the game, sight it as a great experience. Some comments by fans who have signed the petition include, "Days Gone was a great game, with innovative mechanics and awesome gameplay. It has the potential to be SO much more. Please give us Days Gone 2" - Eduardo Lima, "I would love to see a continuation and expansion of this great storyline." - Gerrit Bakhuis.
What most fans of the title seemed to have loved was the gripping story that followed Deacon St. John, portrayed by Sam Witwer, on the search of his wife, whom he was separated from during the start of the zombie apocalypse. The game had you travelling across the pacific north-west mainly via motorbike, which the player could upgrade and customise. Although the gun-play was loud, tactical and fun, some of the gameplay mechanics were nothing new, but the presentation of the game's characters and world were highly praised. Along with this, the main antagonists of the game, called Freakers, were some of the most ferocious and dangerous enemies in any video game. These were zombies, but fast. Think 28 Days Later infected, where instead of slowly stumbling and growling at you, they would not just run, but sprint at the player, in hordes of over fifty.
The story at first is paced very slowly, but once you reach the second camp, the narrative becomes very engaging and interesting, as you try and help fellow survivors as much as possible, whether that be rescuing characters, trying to restore power, taking down hordes and other enemies, or uncovering the truth of how the apocalypse began. The story wrapped up with a thrilling conclusion, which means if a sequel were to ever be green-lit, the narrative could unfold in any way possible. There was also a very creepy cliff-hanger concluding one storyline as well, leaving fans with desperation as to know what lies ahead for certain characters.
It is not known whether Sony knows about this petition, and the fan support the game has reached. The game was a financial success for Bend Studios and Sony, as the game sold more copies than all of Bend Studio's previous games combined. The game has also reached a new audience with it now available to play on Steam, receiving a very positive review score with over 20,000 reviews. Hopefully with this petition reaching the numbers it has, and the success of the game on Steam, Sony will listen, and let Bend Studio make a sequel to this fantastic game, after they have finished on their next title, which is teased to be another open-world game.
