With the PS5 now just over one year old, 2022 is looking like the year to really showcase what the console can do with a new, exciting batch of games, that will expand upon and improve what has previously come. Gameplay and graphics that will truly blow your mind and set a new expectation on next generation gaming. There have been a handful of games that have done this; Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon Souls, Returnal and Astro's Playroom, have given us insane level of detail on characters and environments, as well as utilising the new haptic feedback whilst using the PS5 controller, and getting you into the game with breakneck speeds with the PS5's SSD.
These upcoming games set to be released in 2022 are the most anticipated collection to be played on the PlayStation 5.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection - Release Date January 28, 2022
Jump back into the world of action, mystery, and thievery and play the award-winning Uncharted 4: A Thief's End featuring Nathan Drake's final adventure, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, a spinoff story for fan favourite Chloe Frazer. The game is set to release on January 28 for PS5, and is releasing on PC sometime this year as well.
The benefits of these titles being released on the PS5 are of course mainly graphical and faster loading times. The options for the graphics are Fidelity mode - For a sharp resolution on a 4K display to enjoy the stunning environments and details of both games. In this mode the framerate will be targeted at 30fps. Performance Mode, which targets a 60fps frame rate. For gamers looking to have the smoothest experience possible, there is Performance+ Mode, which drops the resolution to 1080p and targets at a staggering 120fps. The load times are advertised as near instant and the developers are making use of the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to feel the rocky landscapes and environment as you drive over them for example.
Players who purchased either Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy digitally or with disk, can upgrade to the new collection for a small fee, players can purchase the collection for £44.99 on release.

Elden Ring - Release Date February 25, 2022
The upcoming action "souls" like RPG is releasing soon, where players can fight across a world from the imagination of game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, and George R.R Martin. The game's narrative sees your character in a multi-layered story told in fragments, where you explore an open world with six main areas. To traverse this vast and beautiful landscape, you can jump and ride on horseback and choose to go in any direction you so wish, similar to games like Skyrim, or Breath of the Wild, where if you can see it, you can go to it.
Fans of the Dark Souls series, will be in familiar territory, as combat will be much like FromSoftware's previous games, where you'll be fighting large bosses, which you will surely be dodging and blocking, whilst you sweat with fear that they wont land a devastating blow. Stealth is also featured but the developers have said that it is small part of the gameplay. Your character can be customised how you wish.
Develop skills like muscle strength to become a mighty warrior, or master magic to make your summons even more powerful. Fans of this kind of playstyle will surely enjoy, along with the deep lore and world built my George R. R. Martin and Myazaki.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - Release Date TBC 2022
After a disappointing few years from CDProject Red with the poor release of Cyberpunk 2077, 2022 will bring us one of the greatest RPG's of all time to the PS5, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is targeted to be released in the second quarter of 2022, (so anywhere between April to the end of June). It will be a free upgrade to anyone who already owns the game on PS4, and will include both DLC's, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Performance improvements are greatly anticipated, as the game although still visually stunning for a 2015 release, will hopefully upgrade textures and lighting to suck you back into this world even more. I for one am looking forward to revisiting the game upon its release.
God of War Ragnorok- Release Date TBC 2022
The sequel to the award winning 2018 single player action game, is on everyone's list of games to play this year. The game takes place three years after the first instalment, and follows Kratos and Atreus facing new threats as Ragnorok begins, and must understand the revelation that Atreus is Loki, and seek a way to stop Ragnorok from bringing the end of days. The Norse mythological setting will surely look incredible on the PS5 and players will love to fight and battle new mythical types of enemies.
New characters such as Thor, the god of thunder will be introduced, portrayed by Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead star Ryan Hurst. This version of Thor looks a little less flattering than the one we are used to seeing from the MCU. Christopher Judge returns as Kratos along with the now teenage Atreus, along with Freya from the previous instalment, who will now be one of the games main antagonists, along with Thor.
The game has already won awards for Most Wanted Game and Most Anticipated Game from the 2020 Golden Joystick Awards and PlayStation.Blog awards, respectively and is predicted to break records on release. The first game has just released on PC to yet again critical acclaim, with reviews stating it is a fantastic port to the PC.
Horizon Forbidden West - Release Date February 18 2022
Finally, another sequel to a critically acclaimed PlayStation exclusive, Horizon Forbidden West will follow Aloy as she braves the Forbidden West, a deadly frontier that conceals mysterious new threats. Discover distant lands, new enemies and rich cultures where enemies are smarter, faster and a hell of a lot bigger.
You will not just be traversing the land this time around, as you are now able to swim and uncover sunken cities and explore the world from a new perspective.
New abilities and tools such as a glider and grappling hook, will let Aloy be much more versatile than she was in Zero Dawn. By improving on the movement and traversal system I think will greatly elevate this entry above its predecessor.
Once again, the developers are not shying away from using every resource the PS5 can offer. Fast travel across the map will be almost instant with the console's ultra high-speed SSD. The game is available to play in 4k and HDR and will target 60FPS. Once again, this will be a game to use the DualSense controller to the fullest with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, where you will feel the sensation of blades of grass you push past, melee strikes you make against the machines and human enemies. The tension as you pull your bow string back will be precise and immerse you into a harsh and brutal fighting style.
