Remedy to Remake Max Payne 1, and 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC

Remedy game studios along with Rockstar Games have announced they will be remaking the first two instalments of the Max Payne series.

Remakes and remasters are a big craze at the moment in the video game industry, tugging on player's nostalgia strings, and attempting to improve on what was set back in the day. Some remakes and remasters have shinned more than others (I'm looking at you Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and Clank), but others have just not quite had a stable reception.

Fans are in delight then, as Remedy Entertainment enters an agreement with Rockstar Games for New Max Payne 1&2 project. This deal and project makes complete sense, seeing as the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, were developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar Games.

Much like the recent Spyro and Crash Bandicoot remakes, the studios will develop the games as one single title for platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. They will be developed on Remedy's Northlight game engine which has been used for 2019's Control, and their upcoming release of Alan Wake 2. It is said that Rockstar will be financing this development, holding no restrictions, saying the project will be "in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production."

“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

It is safe to say that excitement for this project (currently in concept development stage) is highly anticipated as Remedy announced on Twitter that their investor website had crashed.

For now, we will have to wait and see what arises from this exciting news, and pray that this remake will not be like Rockstar's last remake release, of the critically panned Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
